Standing Up to Donald Trump
Since January 2025, Keith has defended Minnesota from Trump’s attacks dozens of times. The Trump administration has tried to slash federal funding from Minnesota to punish our state, but Keith’s lawsuits have protected over $7.3 billion in funding for Minnesota schools, healthcare, food support, law enforcement, road and bridge repair, and more*. Keith stood up and fought Trump’s surge of ICE agents into Minnesota and challenged Trump’s illegal attacks on our elections.
Keith doesn’t wake up in the morning looking for an excuse to sue Trump, but when Trump violates the laws and harms the people of Minnesota, he can expect to see Keith in court.
Challenging Operation Metro Surge and Standing Up to ICE
When Trump surged thousands of masked, armed agents into our state, Minnesota paid the price. Fatal shootings, school lockdowns, terror and violence, and hundreds of millions of dollars in lost wages and business revenue. That’s why Keith sued the Trump administration, challenging the constitutionality of Operation Metro Surge, in order to bring the surge to an end. Keith is also part of the team investigating the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents.
Defending SNAP From Trump's Cuts
Keith sued the Trump administration three times to keep food on the table for the roughly 440,000 poor Minnesotans, including more than 150,000 kids, who rely on SNAP, also known as food stamps. Keith won court orders blocking those cuts every time. He won’t allow the Trump administration to force Minnesotans to go hungry to punish our state.
Protecting Child Care Funding
When the Trump administration tried to freeze hundreds of millions in child care funding that Minnesota families depend on, Keith took Trump to court yet again. He won two court orders blocking the freeze and restoring our child care funding. This protected parents from having to choose between going to work to pay the bills and staying home with their kids.
Beating Trump on Tariffs
Keith sued to block Trump's tariffs as an illegal, unconstitutional abuse of emergency powers, and won. The victory put an end to tariffs that were raising costs on Minnesota families, farmers, and small businesses. Trump then found other illegal means to impose tariffs, which Keith is challenging in court.
Defending the Freedom to Vote
Keith successfully blocked two separate Trump executive orders that tried to restrict how Americans can register and vote, including a rule limiting mail-in ballots to lists of voters pre-approved by Trump. The courts declared both orders as unconstitutional, protecting Minnesotans' ability to vote this November.
Protecting Minnesota's School Funding
Keith sued to stop the U.S. Department of Education from freezing federal money for Minnesota schools. His lawsuit forced the federal government to back down and unfreeze roughly $530 million a year in education funding for our schools and classrooms. He also beat back a separate funding freeze when the administration tried to withhold $74 million from Minnesota classrooms just weeks before the school year began. Minnesota’s tax dollars should be going to Minnesota schools and classrooms. Keith won’t let Trump steal that money from Minnesota and keep it for himself and his cronies.
Fighting Cruel Funding Cuts
Keith has taken Trump to court numerous times for trying to withhold money from programs to prevent homelessness, to provide healthcare to low-income Minnesotans, to lift people out of poverty, to defend public health, and more. As the Trump administration continues its war on Minnesota, we can count on Keith to continue to defend the people of our state.
