Every Friday, the Ellison Campaign will highlight a Volunteer of the Week to show our appreciation for all of our volunteers' hard work. We can't do this without them! Make a difference and click here to sign up to volunteer.
Rick Heimark doesn’t just make phone calls to voters about the upcoming election. “I enable people from Minnesota to empower themselves,” he says.
Rick has volunteered for Keith since 2008 because he feels “the positive effect of change” through the campaign. “The world needs it and Minnesota needs it.”
Every time Rick volunteers (which our organizers will tell you is every day), he greets our team and visitors with a warm smile. He brings his own positive energy and sense of humor to the office—and his phone calls.
“Rick’s great on the phones and his enthusiasm is contagious,” says Andrew Virden, the campaign’s apartment organizer. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have committed volunteers like Rick. When the election rolls around, it’s people like him who make the difference.”
Talking to voters on the phones isn’t solely about asking who they’ll vote for or inviting them to an event. It’s about having a one-on-one conversation about the issues that impact people’s lives.
“I was inviting a voter to an event the other day and he couldn’t make it because of his law school graduation. So I started talking to him about making sure that education is affordable for all Americans. We had a great conversation.”
If you’ve ever been on the fence when it comes to volunteering for our campaign, Rick’s got some good advice for you. “Just do it. It’s easy, and it’s fun,” he says—with that same warm smile that’s become so well known around the office.
Volunteers will make the difference in this election. We need you to join Rick and be a part of our team.
