Volunteer of the Week: Beth Richards

Friday, August 1, 2014

Every Friday, the Ellison Campaign highlights a Volunteer of the Week to show our appreciation for all of our volunteers’ hard work. We can’t do this without them! Make a difference and click here to sign up to volunteer.

As we wrap up July, our Volunteer of the Week is Beth Richards. Riley Kuderko, an Ellison Organizer, said that Beth is “a hard and thorough worker. She makes everyone in the office laugh and she is a natural phone-banking artist.” Beth Richards is a North Minneapolis resident who was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. Although Beth is currently not working, she is a registered nurse and has been a very dedicated volunteer to both our campaign and the coordinated campaign. BethShe credits her status as a lifelong Democrat and a member of the Walker Community Methodist Church as primary contributors to her decision to be a Super Volunteer. Beth told us that the Church has always been involved in social justice work and that she believes it’s important to exemplify that devotion.

Beth got started volunteering with the campaign when Riley called to ask for her help with a doorknocking event. Even though her mobility issues prevented her from doorknocking, she was more than eager to help with phone banking and has been volunteering ever since. When asked about Beth, Riley says that, “she has consistently voiced a willingness to help out and is always dependable.” She is also spectacular at recruiting volunteers over the phone and “has a voice made for connecting with voters.”

She is very dedicated to her volunteering and believes that being involved with a campaign is important. “We need to remind people that there is a mid-term election coming up and they need to vote, especially because some of the candidate’s races will be very close.” She also recognizes that many Democrats do not vote in midterm elections, so she knows that the work she is doing to spread the word is essential to drawing more voters. Beth’s passion for social justice issues like immigration reform and minimum wage fuel her desire of putting Democrats in office who will work towards improving the lives of others.

Thank you for your exceptional work Beth, we’re so glad you decided to volunteer!

With just 95 days to go until the election, we need you to join Beth and be a part of our team.
