I’m honored that so many dedicated, loyal, and faithful public servants are standing together with our community for Bernie Sanders.
We, the undersigned state senators, representatives, and local elected officials of Minnesota, endorse Bernie Sanders for President in the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Caucus on Tuesday, March 1.
We believe Minnesotans and Americans together are ready for a bold vision for the future. A future built upon clean energy and jobs for working families - where corporations are not people and money does not equal free speech.
The way forward is to elect a president who will expand our vision of what is possible, not settle for the status quo. A President Sanders will protect the accomplishments over the last eight years, and more importantly, expand upon them.
Bernie Sanders’ vision is for everyone in America to reach their fullest potential.
This means making healthcare a human right for all Americans. He’ll work for tuition-free public colleges and universities, so no young person is forced to forfeit their dreams because they can’t afford to go to college.
It means reforming our criminal justice system and breaking down institutional barriers for people of color and immigrant communities. Ensuring LGBT people have equal rights, and women can make health decisions without government interference, and get equal pay for equal work.
Bernie’s vision includes creating millions of new jobs by rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure and investing in communities most in need. And finally making sure these jobs pay a living wage. No one in America who works 40 hours a week should live in poverty. Bernie will fight to raise the minimum wage to a living wage of $15/hour.
When illness or injury strikes, or a child is born, it should not be a privilege for only the privileged few to take much needed time off. That’s why Bernie has a plan to guarantee 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave to every American.
Finally, after a lifetime of labor, Bernie believes all Americans deserve time for rest, and to enjoy grandchildren. That’s why he will not only defend social security from any and all cuts, but he will work to expand it, so all Americans can live out their retirement years in dignity.
Throughout our country’s history, we’ve made great strides as a nation when we think big, not small. Every victory for justice and equality started as an idea purveyors of conventional wisdom thought was impossible. Rather than talk ourselves out of what we can achieve, let us look to the American horizon. Together, we can create a future to believe in. That’s why Bernie Sanders has our vote.
