Keith celebrates Purple Rain's 30th anniversary with acoustic cover

Via City Pages:

Minnesota congressman Keith Ellison can't believe it has been 30 years since the release of Prince's iconic Purple Rain movie soundtrack.

Ellison's love of cultural expression on the acoustic guitar has long been a part of his interactions with the public. Notably, he covered Woody Guthrie last year when Minnesota legalized same-sex marriage. Now he's taken to Vine to recall the title track from Prince's film.

Dedicated Prince followers will notice Ellison is taking some creative license with the lyrics. Can we hear the rest of the song?

Purple fever has also spread to New York's 14th Congressional District as well. Rep. Joe Crowley has recorded a response to Ellison. He's a bigger fan of "Raspberry Beret" off Around the World in a Day, released in 1985. Save that energy for next year, congressman!
